FAQs

Why are you doing this?

We were once where you are now—facing fear, uncertainty, and complex medical decisions. We created Cancer Care Navigator to help patients and families better understand what’s happening, what their options are, and how to move forward with confidence.

What are your credentials for this work?

Our team has a combined 40 years of experience in biotechnology research and development across multiple therapeutic areas, including oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and metabolic disorders. We hold advanced scientific degrees (B.S. and Ph.D.) from major U.S. research universities.

We are not licensed physicians or clinical providers, and we do not make medical decisions for patients. Our role is to help interpret medical information and research so patients can engage more confidently with their healthcare team.

Are you licensed medical doctors? Do you replace my physician’s advice?

No. We are research scientists, not medical doctors. We do not diagnose disease, recommend specific treatments, or replace the expertise of your physicians.

We help you understand medical information, research evidence, and standard cancer care practices so you can ask better questions and participate more confidently in decisions alongside your healthcare team.

Do you specialize in any particular type of cancer?

No. We work across all cancer types—from common to rare. Our support is tailored to each individual’s diagnosis, treatment plan, and decision-making needs rather than a single disease area.

Do you speak directly with my doctor?

Not typically. Our primary role is to educate and prepare patients so they can communicate clearly and confidently with their medical team.

In some situations, we can attend appointments with you (virtually or in person, when appropriate) to help ask questions and clarify information.

Do you handle insurance or billing issues?

No. Insurance coverage, billing, and claims are outside our scope, and we are not able to assist with those matters.

Is this medical advice?

No. We do not provide medical advice. We provide education, interpretation, and guidance to help you understand information and engage more effectively with your medical team.

How are sessions conducted?

Sessions are conducted virtually by video or phone, allowing us to work with patients and families anywhere.

Who do you work with—patients, caregivers, or both?

We work with patients, caregivers, and family members—often together—to ensure everyone involved understands the situation and next steps.

When is the best time to contact you?

You can contact us at any point—new diagnosis, treatment decision, second opinion, or when things feel unclear. Many people reach out when they feel overwhelmed or unsure what questions to ask next.

Can you help me prepare for a second opinion?

Yes. We often help patients prepare for second opinions by organizing information, identifying key questions, and understanding how different recommendations compare.

What if I’m not sure which service I need?

That’s common. You’re welcome to contact us first, and we can help you determine which level of support makes the most sense for your situation.
